Transit & Driver Polices

Passengers

Treat passengers as you would want to be treated.  Treat all passengers with respect.  Be polite and be patient at all times.  The driver will provide assistance for passengers if requested.  That could include helping a person to and from their home/door, helping a person in and out of the vehicles, stepping up onto curbs, or carrying (lift-able) packages.  Each rider will have different needs.  Common sense and basic courtesy should be your guide as to what to do in dealing with passengers.

Schedules and Fares

The service schedule is periodically updated and available as a rider handout for passengers and persons interested in the service.  Have some extra schedules with you on the vehicle, as they can help to answer some of the questions the riders will ask.

Dispatch

We ask the North riders to call Jan on Mondays and the South riders to call Jan by Wednesday to schedule their rides.  If you want a return call, leave your name and number on the answering machine and Jan will get back to you.

Rider Log

Each vehicle has a rider log in it.  Follow the format set up in the log.  A log sheet needs to be doe for each day the vehicle is used for transit.

Fares

The fares are listed on the service schedule and posted in the vehicle. There is a locked collection box for the fares in each vehicle.  At the end of the day, bring the money into the office and fill out a receipt for that day’s fare revenue.

Maintenance Log

There is a maintenance log in each of the vehicles.  Anytime, anything is done to the vehicle (except filling with fuel) and action needs to be logged in the maintenance log in the format that is in the log.

Vehicle Maintenance

It is the Driver’s responsibility to schedule all maintenance for the vehicle.  We follow the recommendations for routine maintenance in the Maintenance Policy.  If something seems wrong or sounds wrong with the vehicle – DO NOT IGNORE IT.  Have it checked as soon as possible.  It is normally less expensive in the long run to deal with maintenance issues right away.  For maintenance you would consider beyond routine (what is spelled out in the vehicle manual) please talk to the Director as soon as possible.

Vehicle Cleaning

It is the Driver’s responsibility to keep the vehicle clean, inside and out.  If you have the vehicle washed, you must get a receipt, and attach it to your time sheet to be reimbursed for the expense.

Vehicle Locked – Storage

You will be in and out of the vehicle many times in a day.  Be sure you remove the keys from the vehicle each and every time you are away from the vehicle.  Each driver with a vehicle has a locked garage where the vehicle is kept when not in use.  Be sure the garage is locked when the vehicle is stored.
